The Aveyron is an outdoor paradise: one of the least densely populated departments in France, crossed by crystal-clear rivers (Tarn, Dourbie, Lot, Aveyron) and sculpted by the limestone plateaus of the Grands Causses — a UNESCO World Heritage site for its agropastoral landscapes — and dotted with medieval villages, several of which rank among the Most Beautiful Villages of France.
No crowds and no concrete here: you camp by the water, hike across the causses, paddle down the gorges by canoe and end the day with an aligot or a Roquefort made 25 minutes from the campsite.
The southern Aveyron: Millau, outdoor capital
The campsite is located in Millau, at the confluence of the Tarn and the Dourbie, in the most spectacular part of the department. The town is renowned as one of France's capitals of outdoor sports : paragliding from the Causses, via ferrata, climbing, canoeing, mountain biking, hiking and trail running (the famous Festival des Templiers is run here every autumn).

Getting to the Aveyron
The A75 motorway — toll-free along its entire route except the viaduct crossing — runs through the department and serves Millau. Allow 1h15 from Montpellier, 2h from Toulouse, 2h30 from Clermont-Ferrand and about 6h30 from Paris. Millau also has a railway station (Béziers–Clermont-Ferrand line).

Which part of the Aveyron is best for camping?
The southern Aveyron, around Millau, concentrates the department's most spectacular sites: the Millau Viaduct, the Tarn and Dourbie gorges, the Larzac plateau and the Roquefort cellars. It is also the sunniest part, with a true southern climate from May onwards.
How do you get to the Aveyron by car?
The A75 motorway (toll-free except the viaduct) crosses the Aveyron from north to south and serves Millau directly. Allow about 6h30 from Paris, 1h15 from Montpellier and 2h from Toulouse. The campsite is 5 minutes from the Millau exit.
