The Millau area, UNESCO-listed, is a rare playground in France: a limestone plateau stretching to the horizon, sliced by the deep Tarn, Jonte and Dourbie gorges. You walk among sheep flocks, pass dolmens, stop at a viewpoint 700 metres above the river. Trails are plentiful and well-marked, from one-hour village loops to multi-day Causse crossings.

River, swimming, canoeing, rafting

Three white-water rivers — the Tarn, the Dourbie and the Jonte — cross the Millau area, carving one of France's finest water-sport playgrounds: turquoise waters, limestone cliffs hundreds of metres high, shaded pebble beaches. The Tarn Gorges offer one of the country's most iconic canoe descents, suited to the whole family. In spring, when rivers run high, it's time for rafting and hydrospeed. In summer, enjoy natural beaches and high-altitude swimming lakes.

Millau is one of France's free-flight capitals: the Puncho d'Agast, just above the town, is a world-renowned paragliding spot. Nearby limestone cliffs also host several via ferrata routes and climbing sites for all levels. On the plateau, over 200 km of marked trails await mountain bikers. For families, treetop courses, archery and outdoor activity bases round out the menu.

Millau and its surroundings are full of stone villages, medieval heritage, old lanes, craftspeople and food… A great chance to combine nature and culture.
Every bend in the road reveals a listed village, a Templar city or cheese cellars known the world over. Millau itself keeps an old heart paced by its markets and its leather craftspeople. 25 minutes away, Roquefort-sur-Soulzon and its natural cellars; 35 minutes away, La Couvertoirade; and at the heart of the Tarn Gorges, Sainte-Énimie, listed among the most beautiful villages of France. And always on the horizon, the Viaduct — one of the finest engineering works of the 21st century.
