The Dourbie — an exceptional river

The Dourbie is a tributary of the Dourdou de Millau, rising on the Larzac plateau and joining the Aveyron at Millau. Listed as a Natura 2000 site, its crystal-clear waters are among the cleanest in southern France. The river runs directly alongside Camping Saint Lambert for 200 metres of riverbank along the Dourbie.

In summer, the Dourbie offers a variety of natural swimming areas: shallow, calm sections for children, deeper areas for adults, and gentle currents for snorkelling or observing aquatic wildlife.

The campsite's private beach

The campsite has direct river access via a large developed beach on the Dourbie. The beach is accessible to campsite residents only. Sun loungers, grass mown down to the water's edge, trees for shade — the ideal spot to spend an afternoon without going anywhere.

It's one of the campsite's great assets, and a rare one in Millau: a beach deep enough to really swim — not just paddle — with a magnificent view over the river and the surrounding Causses. A riverside swimming setting few other campsites in town can match.

Dogs are not allowed on the campsite's main beach. An adjacent beach, accessible from the campsite, is reserved for them so they can also enjoy the river.

River swimming: what you need to know

River swimming is different from the pool. The current can vary with rainfall and seasons. Here are our tips for a safe and enjoyable experience:

• The water shoes are recommended (rocky riverbed)
• After heavy rain, the current may be stronger — check with the reception team
• The shallow area is ideal for toddlers
• The water is cool even in July — expect 18 to 22°C depending on the season

River fishing from the campsite

The Dourbie is a Class 1 fishery, meaning it is populated with wild brown trout. Campers can fish directly from the campsite's riverbanks. A daily fishing permit is available at reception. Ideal for fly-fishing enthusiasts.

Why choose a riverside campsite over a seaside one?

The river offers a different experience from the seaside: fresh cool water, unspoilt natural surroundings, fewer crowds, varied activities (canoeing, fishing, swimming, hiking). Aveyron and its rivers — the Tarn, the Dourbie, the Dourdou — are among France's most sought-after outdoor destinations for exactly this reason.

Camping Saint Lambert enjoys exceptional surroundings: nestled between the Causses, surrounded by nature, a stone's throw from the Gorges du Tarn and the Millau Viaduct.
